Flashed smart switch for Home Assistant: our review (10/10)

What if your ordinary wall switch became smart without changing your decor or rewiring anything? That's exactly what the Behogan Wi-Fi switch module does: a tiny receiver that sits behind your existing switch and turns it into a smart switch. We tested it, then flashed it for local Home Assistant integration. Verdict: 10/10.

A module that hides behind the switch

The idea is simple: the module (barely bigger than a matchbox) connects behind your existing switch. You keep your look, and the switch becomes remotely controllable. On the wiring side, it's straightforward:

• 100–240 V AC power supply;
• 16 A max (3,840 W) — more than enough for lighting;
• a neutral wire is required (check before you buy).

The pack includes 2 modules — enough to equip two rooms for around €28.

The real plus: flashable over USB-TTL for Home Assistant

Where this module stands out is that it can be flashed with a simple USB-TTL adapter (like the Helweet CP2102 at ~€9). Once flashed, it connects directly to Home Assistant, locally, without going through the Tuya cloud — and crucially with state feedback: Home Assistant always knows whether the light is on, even when you flip the switch by hand.

For the less DIY-minded, the module also works out of the box with the Tuya / Smart Life app (remote control, schedules, scenes, Alexa and Google Home).

Our verdict

For automating existing lighting on a budget, this Behogan module is a great entry point: simple install behind the switch, state feedback, and the option of 100% local Home Assistant integration via a USB-TTL flash. The perfect score is earned — provided you have a neutral wire and don't mind a bit of tinkering.
