Home Assistant 2026.10: One-Click MCP, New Map, Trigger IDs

The stable Home Assistant 2026.10 landed on October 7, 2026, nicknamed “You are here”. After our look at the beta, here is what made the final release notes.

Connect your AI in one click

The AI tasks page under Settings > System is now simply AI and gets a Model Context Protocol card. One click turns on the MCP server, and the card lists the URLs to paste into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, each with a copy button. New setups expose everything and only let administrator accounts connect; both can be changed later. It also works the other way: apps running their own MCP server are now discovered automatically. KNX users get dedicated AI tools to query their ETS project and bus.

A whole new map

After last month’s outage, when the old tile provider started demanding an API key, maps now use OpenStreetMap vector tiles, fetched and cached through your own instance. Result: sharp at every zoom, a dark style, redesigned markers (one bubble per zone) and a Map dashboard overview with People, Devices and Zones tabs. Older wall tablets fall back to the classic map.

Trigger IDs, finally easy

The Triggered by condition now lets you tick the triggers you want, numbered in order; Home Assistant handles the IDs behind the scenes. Your own YAML IDs keep working.

Also new

  • Dashboard visibility conditions now offer the same conditions as automations (Template, Sun, Zone, Device) and show whether the card is visible right now
  • Refreshed automation traces; a Z-Wave map that can draw the real mesh
  • Proxmox VE update entities (no install from HA yet) and a new Modbus panel
  • 15 new integrations, including SolarEdge Modbus (local, platinum), Threema and Willow plant sensors
  • The Matter leak-alarm and one-touch-lock switches from the beta are in; Tuya supports more devices; Teslemetry can control Powerwall locally and the car over Bluetooth
  • Home Assistant Cloud will be renamed Home Assistant Link in December

Check before updating

  • Legacy auth mode is gone: usernames are now always lowercase, without surrounding spaces
  • mqtt.publish, mqtt.dump and Synology reboot/shutdown now need an admin when a user triggers them by hand
  • Proxmox uptime sensors become timestamps; Mealie 3.2+ is required; Linode and Tank Utility are disabled
  • State conditions mixing for with attributes or state lists now fail validation

The Rocks take

The one-click MCP server is the headline for anyone running a local AI setup: it turns a fiddly config into a toggle. Back up, read the breaking changes, then update.
