Market: United States · Amazon.com · USD. Checked on October 24, 2026: new unit, shipped and sold by Amazon.com (not a marketplace seller), in stock with free shipping. This is the 8 GB / 256 GB Celestial White version, and Lenovo's clear case is in the box.
Most "tablet deals" are about Netflix on the couch. This one is interesting for a different reason: the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 is a 12.1-inch, 120 Hz tablet with a built-in 360° kickstand and a hanging hook, which happens to be the shape of a good Home Assistant dashboard. At $269.99 instead of $399.99 on Amazon, with 256 GB and a case included, it costs less than most dedicated smart displays of the same size.
Is $269.99 actually a good price?
Yes. The list price is $399.99, so this is $130 off (−32.5%). On October 23, Android Authority said $269.99 matches the lowest price ever, and Slickdeals' editors note it equals the previous best deal. Lenovo.com charges the same $269.99 for the 128 GB version without a case, so Amazon gives you twice the storage and a case for the same money. Lenovo.com is still worth checking if Amazon sells out.

The dashboard checklist
We judge any tablet bought for home automation against five points:
- Can it stand or hang without a mount? Yes. The kickstand is built into the back and doubles as a hook, so you can hang it from a nail in the kitchen or stand it on a counter. You don't need to drill a wall bracket.
- Is the screen big and readable from across the room? 12.1 inches at 2.5K is plenty for a Lovelace view with cameras, energy graphs and room cards.
- Will it stay updated? Security patches run until 2030. That matters for a device that sits on your network 24/7.
- Does it have an always-on mode? Lenovo's Standby Mode turns it into a clock and info screen when it's on the kickstand and charging. For a true dashboard, Fully Kiosk Browser or the Home Assistant Companion app does the job better.
- What about the battery? Like any tablet plugged in permanently, the battery ages. A simple fix is to put the charger on a smart plug and let Home Assistant charge it only between, say, 40% and 80%.
Home Assistant and ecosystem
It's a regular Google-certified Android tablet, so everything works: the Companion app (which reports battery, screen state and sensors back to HA), Fully Kiosk Browser (with its own HA integration for screen on/off and motion wake-up), Google Home and Alexa apps. It is not a Matter controller or a Thread border router, so you still need a hub for that side. Never set up HA before? Start with our complete Home Assistant 2026 guide. To add voice control next to the screen, our guide on turning old smart speakers into Home Assistant voice satellites pairs well with it.

The Idea Tab Plus hit $210 in mid-October (an offer that has since expired), but today it costs the same as the Gen 2, which has a faster chip, a 120 Hz screen and the stand. The Galaxy Tab S10 FE adds IP68 and the S Pen, but it's smaller and costs $150–230 more. If all you want is a light switch with a screen, a dedicated wall panel like the SONOFF NSPanel is cheaper and wired in.
Who should buy it, who should skip it
Buy it if you want one device that serves as a kitchen or hallway HA dashboard during the day and a proper media tablet with loud speakers at night. It also suits anyone who wants to hang a screen without drilling.
Skip it if you need a pen-first tablet for notes (the Galaxy Tab S10 FE includes one), a fully local wall panel, or a waterproof device for the bathroom.
