Sonos Ace Ultra review: the headphones that join your Wi-Fi instead of your phone

The Sonos Ace Ultra ($449) keeps the Ace formula but adds a big twist: it's the first headphone built on the Headphone Engine 2 silicon, letting it connect straight to your Sonos system's Wi-Fi network instead of relying on Bluetooth, as Tom's Guide explains.

From Bluetooth to Wi-Fi: a real shift

Pairing Bluetooth headphones with a TV usually means lip-sync latency, compressed audio and limited range. The Ace Ultra sidesteps all that over Wi-Fi: uncompressed, zero-latency spatial audio, and the freedom to walk your whole house without dropouts.

Calibration built for the living room

Rather than a generic virtual surround filter, TrueCinema uses the room's acoustic data to map audio to your actual space. Launched alongside the Beam Ultra soundbar, the headphones slot into the Sonos ecosystem.

Battery and comfort

Sonos claims up to 35 hours of battery with ANC on, plus improved noise cancellation over the Ace. EFTM's review, which scores it 87%, praises the extremely comfortable fit and strong sound — "you get what you pay for."

If you already run a Sonos system and want living-room headphones for movies, series and music without Bluetooth's compromises, the Ace Ultra makes sense. At $449, it's aimed at ecosystem users rather than travelers who just want a portable ANC pair.
