The next-generation Roadster is officially back on the order books: Tesla reopened reservations the week of September 20, requiring a $50,000 deposit from buyers, reports Hypebeast.
The new reservation round arrives despite the original 2017 Roadster racking up at least eight delays without delivering a single production unit.
An October 1 reveal in Texas
The October 1 event in Texas is set to feature a hovering, remote-operated stunt car equipped with SpaceX cold gas thrusters — echoing teaser imagery released in recent weeks showing the thrusters firing.
Committing cash before the final model
The notable part: buyers must commit this amount before a final production version has even been shown. That reserves the offer for the brand's most committed — or most confident — customers.
Chief designer Franz von Holzhausen addressed the recurring delays again during his appearance on Jay Leno's Garage.
