Tesla's 2026 Summer Update (software version 2026.26) turns Grok, the assistant built by xAI, from a talking companion into a genuine in-car voice controller. You can now chain several commands in a single sentence: fold the mirrors, set wipers to max, change the temperature to 65°, open the glovebox or switch on the headlights.
"Hey Grok": drive without touching the screen
The assistant is summoned by saying "Hey Grok", by long-pressing the voice button on the steering wheel, or from the app launcher. It can make phone calls, play music, adjust climate and search the Controls panel — provided you have Premium Connectivity or a Wi-Fi connection.
Expanded commands on AMD Ryzen vehicles
Release 2026.26.6.5, which merges the Summer Update with FSD v14.3.8, unlocks a broader command set — climate, wiper speed, defrost, seat heating, mirror folding and glovebox opening — but only on vehicles with the AMD Ryzen infotainment processor. In a test by the Drive Tesla Canada community, the assistant completed 116 of 170 spoken commands without any screen interaction.
