Tesla put a big round number on its purpose-built robotaxi rollout. On October 10, 2026, the official Robotaxi account posted that more than 300 Cybercabs are serving Austin — an 8× increase in the 30 days since paid public rides began — and Tesla’s main account amplified it. TeslaNorth and EV.com covered the claim the same day.
What Tesla claimed
- “One month after launch, we’ve scaled to 300+ Cybercabs serving Austin”
- Paid Cybercab rides in Austin started in early September 2026
- Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s VP of AI Software: Cybercabs are “everywhere in Austin now. Dallas soon” — no date given
Registry vs riders
Texas automated-vehicle records recently showed about 319 Cybercab VINs after a batch of 150 additions. Serving riders and sitting on a state registry are not the same metric — Saturday’s post is Tesla’s own fleet-in-service claim. Unofficial trackers still count Dallas unsupervised rides mostly on Model Ys, even as Cybercabs have been photographed at a Dallas Robotaxi lot.
What is still unknown
- How many of the 300+ cars are fully unsupervised versus monitored
- Wait times, utilization, or whether service hours changed with the larger fleet (Austin already runs to 11 p.m.)
- When Dallas riders get Cybercabs instead of Model Ys
- NHTSA’s Cybercab safety-certification audit — Tesla’s sworn response is due October 30
Rocks take
Three hundred cars on a map is progress; rides completed per car is the KPI that matters. Dallas “soon” is the next proof point — and the NHTSA clock is running in the background.
