Three-year-old flagships are getting Android 17. On October 14, 2026, Sammy Fans and PhoneArena reported Samsung’s stable One UI 9.0 (Android 17) starting in South Korea — the natural next wave after S26 / S25 / Fold 7 families and last week’s S24 / Fold 6 push.
Who’s in the first Korea wave
- Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra (PDA builds ending GZIF)
- Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5
- Korea-only Galaxy Jump 5 — same hardware class as the global Galaxy A27 5G, which PhoneArena expects to follow internationally
What’s in the package
Sammy Fans notes the October 2026 security patch set (cited as covering up to 83 vulnerability items) and calls One UI 9 the last major OS upgrade for the 2023 S23 line before the phones shift to security-only support on a quarterly cadence. Beta program users get a small sub-500 MB jump from beta to stable; stock One UI 8.5 users wait on the full package. Coverage also teases Galaxy AI bits such as Call Brief, Now Brief custom cards, Now Nudge and My FanCam on newer flagships — older S23 hardware gets the One UI 9 shell and whatever AI features Samsung enables for that generation.
Global timing and a known bug
PhoneArena expects broader Asia, Europe and US waves within days if Samsung repeats last week’s pattern. The same outlet warns of an early One UI 9 bug that left some S24, A57 and even S26 Ultra owners unable to use the phone after updating — still unresolved in that October 14 report. Back up first; don’t rush if you only need the security patch and can wait for a hotfix CSC.
Rocks take
Good news if you’re still on an S23 Ultra and want Quick Panel polish plus Android 17 — but Korea-first means wait for your carrier/CSC before assuming the download is live, and skim Samsung Members for boot-loop reports before you tap Install overnight.
