Microsoft Copilot Home, Code, Autopilot Announced Sep 25 2026

Copilot is no longer just a chat pane bolted onto Office. On September 25, 2026, Microsoft’s Jared Spataro introduced a rebuilt Copilot experience with three named pillars: Home, Code, and Autopilot.

Home + Office in Copilot

Home merges Chat (quick Q&A and drafts) with Cowork (delegated multi-step jobs that return finished packs—RFPs, launch kits, close packages). Office in Copilot creates or updates real Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files inside the Copilot surface, keeping formatting and teammate @mentions in sync with the desktop apps. A future mode router will pick Chat, Cowork, or Code from a single request.

Code and Managed Runtime

Code lets non-developers describe widgets, dashboards, or internal apps in natural language; Copilot builds them using the same underlying stack as GitHub Copilot, running in a sandbox hosted by Microsoft Copilot Managed Runtime inside the tenant. Code enters Frontier at month-end, with broader availability in following weeks, and preview for Microsoft 365 Premium/Pro later in the year. Managed Runtime is already in preview and open to third-party/pro-code apps.

Autopilot (ex-Scout)

Autopilot is a cloud-hosted personal agent with its own identity, memory, and workspace—watching channels, chasing follow-ups, and running recurring work without a fresh prompt. It shows up in Teams, Outlook, chats, and docs with permissions and audit trails. Private preview expands at the end of the month.
