Microsoft turns Copilot into an autonomous agent to take on Meta

Microsoft announced Friday a fully redesigned Copilot that shifts the assistant from a standard chatbot to autonomous agents, reports MediaPost. The stated goal: compete directly with Meta's AI agent Muse.

Three new tools for advertisers

Three new Copilot tools will roll out in the coming weeks. They aim to help advertisers save time, scale creative production and automate routine tasks, embedding agentic AI workflows directly into daily projects.

An AI that chains actions together

Instead of switching apps, users can ask Copilot to create a launch plan in Word and then a budget in Excel, with no manual step in between. That is the core of the "agentic" promise: an AI that executes a sequence of actions rather than simply answering.

Jared Spataro, Microsoft's CMO of AI at Work, detailed the features in a blog post. The announcement is part of an AI-agent race pitting Microsoft against Meta, Google and OpenAI.
