Matter goes after energy: Silicon Labs unveils 'Smart Energy' solutions

Silicon Labs is spotlighting its Matter Smart Energy solutions, a smart-home standard extension dedicated to energy management, highlighted by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) on September 24, 2026.

The goal: unify the connected home and the smart grid through secure, interoperable energy management. Matter acts as a "common language" between smart-home platforms, connected devices and energy-management apps.

Which devices are covered?

  • EV chargers: charge scheduling around utility rates and grid conditions.
  • Smart appliances (dishwashers, dryers, ovens): energy measurement and cost-optimized scheduling.
  • Heat pumps and water heaters: energy-management modes and automated optimization.
  • Solar and inverters: generation monitoring and HEMS integration.
  • Home battery storage: load shifting and backup.

Security first

Because these devices touch the grid, Silicon Labs relies on its Secure Vault technology for secure boot, encrypted communication and device integrity. Products communicate over Matter over Thread or Matter over Wi-Fi.
