Home Assistant Cloud is becoming “Home Assistant Link”: what changes (and what doesn’t) for your subscription

On October 2, Nabu Casa announced in a post on the Home Assistant blog that Home Assistant Cloud is being renamed Home Assistant Link. The Home Assistant 2026.10 release notes sum it up: “Same service, new name.”

Why the new name?

Nabu Casa says “cloud” never fit. Home Assistant tells people to avoid devices that depend on the cloud, and some new users thought Home Assistant Cloud was a way to run Home Assistant in the cloud. It isn’t: Home Assistant always runs locally, in your home.

According to Nabu Casa, Link is optional (your home keeps working without it, even if you unsubscribe), has no lock-in, and keeps your data encrypted with a key only you hold. Most subscription profits go to the Open Home Foundation.

When does it happen?

The post says the change will become official in the December 2026.12 release. Nabu Casa’s site is more specific: “On December 2nd, Home Assistant Cloud becomes Home Assistant Link.” Feedback is welcome until then.

What stays the same

Features don’t change. Nabu Casa’s pricing page lists remote access, offsite backups, Alexa and Google Home voice control, cloud speech-to-text and text-to-speech, better camera and music streaming, and dedicated human support for Link features. Nabu Casa also says remote access now runs on a new bare-metal setup that connects you to the closest server.

What about the price?

The announcement doesn’t mention any price change. As of October 15, the official page lists $6.50 a month or $65 a year in the US (tax not included), and €7.50 a month or €75 a year in Europe. The annual plan costs the same as 10 months, and there’s a 31-day free trial with no card required.

Do you need to do anything?

No. The announcement doesn’t ask subscribers to take any action. If you run your own remote access (VPN or reverse proxy), nothing changes for you either.
