Bose is doubling down on open ears. In a September 17, 2026 press release, the company unveiled Bose Sport Open Earbuds ($199) and Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) ($299). Preorders opened September 19; general availability is October 1 via Bose.com and select retailers. Both come in Black or White Smoke; Sport also launches in limited Eucalyptus Green, and Ultra 2nd Gen adds Cherry Chocolate, Olive Green and Sky Pink. President of Bose Premium Consumer Audio Raza Haider framed the pair as expanding all-day open listening into sport while refining the flagship cuff design.
Shared open-ear tech
Both use Bose OpenAudio—a transducer plus tightly controlled acoustic structure for air-conducted sound near the ear—and Bose SoundDesign DSP for clarity and bass without sealing the canal. Bose stresses these are not bone-conduction products and do not need a tight contact point against the head. Because the design keeps situational awareness, the company states they do not offer active noise cancellation. SpeechClarity pairs one dedicated microphone and one voice pickup unit per bud for AI-enhanced voice isolation on calls. Connectivity lists Bluetooth Core 5.4, multipoint for two devices, SBC and AAC, plus Google Fast Pair.
- Sport Open: C-arm silicone cuff; IP54 sweat/splash/dust; Auto Volume; textured physical buttons; up to 7 hours buds + 22 hours in wireless charging case
- Ultra Open 2nd Gen: refined metallic cap; Cinema Mode via TrueSpatial; Snapdragon Sound / aptX Adaptive on compatible Android; up to 9 hours + 19.5 hours in wireless charging case
App, shortcuts, and later firmware
The Bose app covers a three-band EQ, Auto Volume control, shortcut configuration, Bluetooth device management and firmware updates. Shortcuts can target Spotify Tap, the phone’s native voice assistant, or Immersive Audio cycling (Ultra only). After October 1, Bose says a planned firmware update will enable Google Find Hub, Alexa+, and an Apple Music shortcut—planned features, not day-one claims in the launch note.
