Aqara FP400 Spatial Multi-Sensor Ships Globally With Matter Over Thread

Presence sensing just got a Matter-native upgrade from Aqara. On September 16, 2026, HomeKit News and Matter Alpha reported the global launch of the Spatial Multi-Sensor FP400—now on Amazon in the US, UK, DE, FR, ES, and IT.

What the radar can see

The FP400 uses 60GHz mmWave with a 120° field of view across roughly 10 × 8 meters. Aqara says it can track up to ten people in real time and divide rooms into custom zones on a 0.5 × 0.5 m grid (up to eight zones in Aqara’s own tooling). An ambient light sensor feeds illuminance into automations. AI-assisted mapping aims to cut false triggers from pets, airflow, and robot vacuums.

Thread vs Zigbee paths

Thread mode runs as Matter-over-Thread through a third-party Thread border router—no Aqara hub required for Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant, Homey, or SmartThings. Zigbee mode targets existing Aqara hubs, which then bridge into Matter. Aqara also describes hub-less configuration in its app over Thread on the same LAN before pairing to Matter.

The Matter fine print

Marketing talks multi-zone exposure; footnotes and Matter Alpha note that Thread/Matter may expose only one overall presence sensor plus illuminance on third-party platforms. If you bought FP400 for eight HomeKit zones, verify firmware and controller behavior before assuming parity with the Aqara app.
