Before Apple’s October 13 “Welcome home” event, the rumor mill got more specific. On October 8–9, 2026, MacRumors relayed findings from leaker pdfu (and earlier Dynamic Island notes from Aaron Perris) about two features reportedly baked into Apple-co-developed LG home accessories.
Important: none of this is an Apple or LG announcement. Treat every product detail as a leak or iOS beta code find.
What the leaks claim
- Lineup (Bloomberg earlier in the week): thermostat, temperature sensor, deadbolt, wired video doorbell, indoor/outdoor/floodlight cameras — LG-branded, Apple co-developed
- Proximity Control: tap or bring an iPhone near the accessory → Dynamic Island “Open Controls” for thermostats, or a camera viewer for cameras/doorbells; non-Island iPhones and iPads get a 30-second notification; can be disabled in the Home app
- Uses an NFC
apple-deviceidin the Matter payload plus a Bluetooth LE broadcast; code present since iOS 27.0, settings still changing in 27.2 betas - Unpowered NFC setup (HomeKit-exclusive per pdfu): iPhone writes pairing identity and network credentials into the accessory’s secure element (NXP SE051H cited on lock/thermostat firmware). After power-up, the device joins Wi-Fi or Thread and a hub finishes Matter setup
- LG firmware reportedly swaps the Matter NFC applet for a HomeKit applet; standard Matter pairing remains once the device is powered
Timing
Bloomberg says the LG accessories are still at least a few months from release. Apple’s October 13 event may preview them — or may not.
Rocks take
Tap-to-pair while the lock is still in the box is a genuinely useful idea. Home Assistant users will care more about whether Matter stays first-class once the HomeKit NFC path lands — the leak says it does, after power-on.
