I'd make the exact same choice: the price / fun / tech ratio remains unbeatable.
Two years ago, I took the plunge: a Tesla Model 3 Performance, but not just any — a Tesla certified used one. Today, 20,000 km later, here's my honest, no-nonsense review.
The used-car steal
I paid €31,500, with Enhanced Autopilot (FSD), new paint and new wheels. For comparison, new with the same options it would have been over €47,000. It had 41,000 km on the clock, a battery at 95% SOH and an extended warranty for peace of mind.
The result: a nearly-new electric sports car for about €15,000 less than a new one. Hard to beat.
Supercharging, the non-issue
Contrary to what you read everywhere, Tesla's closed system with Superchargers is brilliant. No card, no broken charger: you plug in, it charges. For my Paris → Cahors trip, two 12-minute stops are enough. Time for a coffee, and off you go.
The app that changes everything
The mobile app is more than useful: no key needed. In winter, the car heats up and defrosts before I step out; in summer, the A/C kicks in before I get in. I'd never go back.
The painful bits
Two caveats worth knowing. First, Supercharger prices have gone up over the past two years — charging is still competitive with gas, but the increase is noticeable. Second, spare parts are expensive: budget accordingly if you're out of warranty.
My verdict
After 2 years and 20,000 km, I'd make the exact same choice. The price / fun / tech ratio remains unbeatable, and the small flaws are manageable. If you're on the fence about a Tesla certified used Model 3, go for it.
