Sonos rolls out its big Sonos 27 update: Android widgets, portable surrounds and two-finger volume

On September 8, Sonos began rolling out its new Sonos 27 app, billed as one of its most significant software updates of the year. It brings Android widgets, reorderable music services, portable surrounds and a "two-finger" volume control.

A reworked navigation

The app adds Home, System and Search tabs across the bottom of the screen, plus a room-sort option pinned to the top for faster access. The standout is a virtual volume knob you rotate with two fingers like a physical dial — rolling out on iOS first.

Reordered services and portable surrounds

• Android widgets: control playback straight from the home screen;
• Reorderable music services: pin your favorite platforms to the top;
• Portable surrounds: new portable speakers can join the system;
• New iOS shortcuts for automations.

The rollout is phased and can take up to two weeks to reach every device.
