On September 3, 2026, NVIDIA confirmed an agreement to acquire Hugging Face for $12,930,300,000 (≈$12.9 billion). CEO Jensen Huang announced the deal himself in a post on the company’s official blog.
A massive bet on open-source AI
Hugging Face hosts the largest library of open-source AI models, datasets and developer tools in the ecosystem. NVIDIA dominates the chips that run those models. By bringing the two together, the company says it will “expand access to AI,” in Huang’s words.
Why now
The deal extends NVIDIA’s push beyond hardware into software, platforms and the developer community. First reported in late August, it was made official on September 3.
What it changes for developers
Nothing changes in the short term for users of the platform. But the question of Hugging Face’s neutrality — long seen as independent of the big AI vendors — is now on the table, as WIRED notes.
