Best new mobile games of September 2026: Lara Croft, Rusty Lake and a free DLC

September 2026 is a busy month for mobile gaming. GTA 6 may loom over everything, but iOS and Android players already have plenty to play: a Lara Croft revival, a new Rusty Lake puzzler and the final free update to a modern classic.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

Not a mainline Tomb Raider, but the spiritual successor to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light: an isometric action game with co-op for up to four players. It costs £7.49 on iOS and Android, from Feral Interactive.

Servant of the Lake (Rusty Lake)

Rusty Lake returns with a tactile, surreal and delightfully sinister touchscreen puzzle game, true to its minimalist style. Expect to pay £4.99 on iOS and Android.

Ball x Pit: The Naturalist (free update)

Devolver Digital's blend of Breakout and Balatro-style stat boosting gets its free final update, scored 9/10 by critics: two new characters (the Ballbearer and the Hoary Hoarder) plus new ball and passive-ability varieties.

Also worth a look: Chillquarium (Snapbreak, free), a mellow idle aquarium game, and Galactic Outlaw: Tower Defence (Purplecow, free, iOS).
