The open-source home automation platform Home Assistant released version 2026.9 on September 2, 2026, covered by the project's official blog and How-To Geek. The focus: more clarity about what's happening in your home.
Alerts that sort the urgent from the trivial
The security dashboard now includes an “Active alerts” section that distinguishes severity levels: a door left open won't be flagged with the same urgency as a smoke alarm. When everything is fine, the section simply disappears.
Understanding the “why” and mapping Matter
Activity history now shows what caused a state change: at a glance, you can see a shutter closed because an automation detected heavy rain. Matter gains a network map showing the full topology of connected devices. Modbus setup (solar inverters, heat pumps, energy meters) also moves toward the UI instead of hand-written YAML.
The release brings 13 new integrations. Home Assistant and the Open Home Foundation will also be at IFA Berlin, September 4-8, 2026 (Hall 1.2).
