Apple iPhone Duo: first foldable iPhone — price, date and official specs

Apple just entered the foldable game. On its official product pages, Apple introduces iPhone Duo as the first foldable iPhone — on the French site, “le tout premier iPhone pliable.” In France, pre-orders open on 16 October at 14:00, with availability from 23 October. The US page lists pre-orders from 5:00 a.m. PT on October 16 and availability starting October 23. French pricing starts at €2,339 (or €97.46/month over 24 months); the US store starts from $1,999.

A thin foldable with the largest iPhone display

When open, Duo is described as the thinnest iPhone with the largest display ever — about 50% larger than iPhone 18 Pro Max. The dual-display system pairs a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner foldable panel with a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display. Both share the same aspect ratio, so layouts feel consistent whether you are closed or open. The inner screen is built from 10 ultrathin layers with a custom nano-texture anti-reflective finish, peaks at 3,000 nits, and hides an under-display FaceTime camera until you need it — leaving an uninterrupted viewing surface for movies, shows, and games.

The hardware wraps that canvas in a titanium frame. Apple stresses a pocketable closed design and two finishes: Star White and Night Sky (Blanc stellaire and Ciel nocturne on apple.com/fr).

iOS 27 reinvented for foldable poses

Software is part of the pitch. Apple says iOS 27 is reimagined for Duo’s positions and orientations, with seamless transitions between displays. You can run StandBy even when you aren’t charging — turning Duo into a clock, photo frame, or widget board — take hands-free FaceTime with the phone standing on its own, and watch content on the outer display at a comfortable angle. The idea is one iPhone that works closed, open, or propped in between.

Dual Fusion cameras — no telephoto

Photography sticks to a focused dual-camera stack: 48MP Dual Fusion (Fusion Main + Fusion Ultra Wide), a 12MP Center Stage front camera, and the under-display FaceTime camera. Apple highlights foldable-native features — Duo Preview, Kid Cue (Animated Guide / Repère animé on the FR page), Duo FaceTime, and Smart Take / Smart Capture — plus video up to 4K at 120 fps. Compared with iPhone 18 Pro, Duo has no Fusion telephoto; optical-quality 2x zoom is called out instead of a dedicated third camera.

A20 Pro, dual battery, C2 modem

Performance comes from the A20 Pro chip with a dual 16-core Neural Engine, a vapor chamber for sustained loads, a 6-core CPU up to 20% faster than A19 Pro, and up to 50% more memory bandwidth versus A19 Pro. Battery is an iPhone first: a dual-battery system combined with an internal space-saving eSIM design and the efficient C2 modem. Apple quotes up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and 44 hours on the outer, plus about a 50% charge in around 20 minutes with fast wired charging.

MagSafe case and Folio

Alongside the phone, Apple shows MagSafe-ready accessories: a lightweight iPhone Duo Case and an iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand for stand-friendly viewing angles when you want Duo propped without holding it.
